I’ve officially found my new favorite spot along the west coast: Cannon Beach, Oregon! Nat, Luis, and I connected on Instagram, and I’m so glad we did. These two were some of the most photogenic people I’ve met (and this was the most photogenic spot, too). We started our Cannon Beach couples session on the bluffs for a scenic coastal backdrop. I refer to it as the Oregon of the term “windy city.” Or origin, depending on your love for puns.
In the famous words of Spongebob Squarepants, Haystack Rock is not just a boulder, it’s a rock! I’d like to think that Haystack is the rock Spongebob rode to deliver the Krusty Krab pizza. I never thought I’d be photographing it. Or that’d make such a beautiful focal point for so many awesome beach shots! Nat and Luis were definitely not afraid of the water. These two danced along the coastline for some dreamy romantic photos that might be some of my favorites of all time. I think we can all agree: it’s not just a boulder, it’s Haystack Rock!
On my trip out west, I was staying in Portland, Oregon and decided to risk the weather and head out to the beach. We got super lucky with an overcast day, but I later found out that Cannon Beach actually has live webcams for you to check the weather before you go! As a photographer, this can also be super helpful when anticipating the number of tourists that will be on-site when planning a shoot.
It was hard to leave my new favorite photo spot not knowing when I’d return, but I’ll hold onto these memories for a lifetime! I’d like to give a big thank you to Nat and Luis for welcoming me to the west coast with open arms. You two were so fun to work with! In the meantime, I think I’ll just rewatch my drone footage from the trip on repeat. If you’d like to pretend you’re on the Oregon Coast with me, check out my drone montage here!
